Atmel unveils first single package mcu with rfid reader
1 min read
Atmel has announced the availability of the 'industry's first' AVR microcontroller with an rfid reader block and 16kB of in-system self programmable Flash.
Available in a 5 x 7mm QFN package and operating in the low frequency range of 100 to 150kHz, the ATA5505 is suitable for a variety of amplitude shift keying rfid readers and programmers for access control, industrial automation and animal identification applications.
The microcontroller is said to make building a complete reader an easy process as it requires just a few external components and an antenna coil. It also eliminates the need for expensive discrete components such as crystals.
The ATA5505 provides 512Byte sram, 512Byte EEPROM, 16 general purpose I/O lines, 32 general purpose working registers, one 8bit timer/counter with compare modes, one 8bit high speed timer/counter, a universal serial interface and a LIN controller.
Additional features include internal and external interrupts, an 11channel 10bit a/d converter, programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator and three software selectable power saving modes.
