Augmented reality glasses offer real time language translation
Taking inspiration from Google's Project Glass, a computer programmer in the UK has developed a real time translation system capable of listening to speech and translating it into one of 37 languages before displaying the resulting text as subtitles directly onto the user's glasses.
University of Oxford graduate Chris Powell created the system using two Raspberry Pi computer boards running Debian 'squeeze', Vuzix 1200 Star glasses, a Jawbone mic, headset mic, tv, iPhone, iPad and a transformer. The video below is a short demonstration of the concept. The subtitles mirror the text appearing on the user's glasses.
