Buck converter offers power scalability for next gen tablets

Dialog Semiconductor has announced the DA9210, a four phase programmable dc to dc buck converter that can be scaled for use across multiple smartphone and tablet platforms to help accelerate development cycles.

The power module is designed to deliver an output current of up to 12Amps, although this can be doubled when two converters are used in parallel. Dialog says 38Amps can be achieved when the converter is combined with the company's DA9063 system pmic – making it suitable for ARM Dual big-Little or Cortex A15 multi core application processors. Udo Kratz, vp and general manager of Dialog's mobile systems business group, said: "Dialog has created the new concept of a scalable power solution with our DA9210 quad phase buck converter. "It helps to minimise the effort involved in developing subsequent designs of next generation smartphones and tablets to help vendors keep pace with the need to launch new models every six to nine months in response to consumer demand and competitor activity."
