Component Chooser capture 5million attributes
RS Components has launched what it believes to be the world's largest and most extensive parametric search engine of electronic components. The facility allows the user to search and compare across 260,000 semiconductor, passive and electromechanical components.
According to RS, Component Chooser – which represents an investment of £500,000 – will enable engineers to speed the accurate search and selection of electronic components. Along with side by side comparison of products, the number of searchable attributes has been increased and the presentation of results normalised.
Mark Cundle, RS' technical marketing manager, said: "Typically, designers have to go to a manufacturer's website to do parametric searches. The good ones expose a lot of attributes, but the downside is they only list their own products. This makes searching across manufacturers time intensive."
Component Chooser classifies components according to 5million attributes, each of which is searchable. Customers will be able to search on all attributes and compare products side by side. The search results provide links to support documents such as datasheets, as well as 3d models where available.
RS plans to add a further 100,000 components to the database over the next 18 months.
