DRAM price rises aid Hynix profits
DRAM manufacturer, Hynix Semiconductor has announced its biggest quarterly profit in three years.
The South Korean chipmaker reported 817billion won in first quarter net profit, compared with a 190bn won net loss a year earlier.
The company cited the demand for pcs and a shortage of dram chips, pushing up prices as the drivers.
Kim Min-chul, Hynix' cfo, said: "DRAM prices were much better than expected. We expect supply to rise into the second half but a significant growth in supply is structurally limited. We are cautiously optimistic."
Hynix' sales reached a quarterly record of 2.82trillion won from 1.31tn won the year before, and it was the company's third straight quarter in the black.
