DSP blends floating and fixed point benefits
The latest dsp from Texas Instruments is said to combine the ease of use and precision of floating point programming with the connectivity and lower cost options of fixed point devices.
The TMS320C6743 is based on the C674x core, which blends the benefits of the fixed and floating point approaches. Code compatible with all C6000 devices, the dsp allows developer to design a broad range of energy efficient products using existing software code.
According to the company, the C6743 integrates multiple connectivity options, such as an Ethernet MAC (EMAC) and multimedia card/secure digital (MMC/SD) peripherals, making it suitable for applications including audio conferencing, power protection systems, industrial monitoring and test and measurement products.
Other features include an EDMA 3.0 engine for higher system performance and better debug, 192kbyte of memory and a total active power consumption of 490mW.
