E-ink display adds a second screen to your iPhone
1 min read
An 'always on' e-ink display has been created for the iPhone that turns the back of the device into a second screen.
The 4in display, as demonstrated in the video below, combines Plastic Logic's plastic OTFT backplane with reflective frontplane technology from leading electrophoretic display (EPD) provider E Ink.
Like all e-ink screens, the popSLATE only consumes power when the display is changed, which allows for an 'always on' ambient visual interface.
"We're pleased that, after rigorous testing, popSLATE has endorsed our display technology as being the one that meets the requirements for their innovative product," said Plastic Logic ceo Indro Mukerjee. "Our flexible EPD technology is proving ideal for smartphone accessory applications, and we are glad to be working with popSLATE in this market."
If you're interested in display technology, why not visit the Electronics Design Show between 2 and 3 October 2013? On day one of the Show, Plastic Logic will be hosting a keynote session on the future of flexible displays.
Ian Reid, the company's strategic marketing director, will talk about how Plastic Logic, as the leader in manufacturing flexible plastic electronics, is working with partners to transform concepts into real product designs, while overcoming practical challenges.
