Ethernet switch modules accelerate development of custom made switches
Looking to help users accelerate the development of custom made, high availability switches, Kontron has announced the first 10G/1G Ethernet switch core modules to provide all essential interfaces on a standardised footprint.
The ESC1600/ESC2404 devices are the first of a series of application ready Ethernet switching building blocks, and are aimed at enabling developers of high performance switches to save on development costs.
The modules are designed for use in avionic and military switches with individual mechanical system designs and physical network interfaces. Their physical footprint is standardised, the number of interfaces and their layout is scalable and everything is pre-integrated and application ready.
Kontron's product manager, Reiner Grübmeyer commented: "With the launch of our first Ethernet switch core modules, we are specifically targeting demanding military and avionics applications, in which custom made switch designs with Layer 2 and Layer 3 management, extended temperature range and reliable 10Gbit and 1Gbit Ethernet connectivity, whether with optical fibre or copper cable, are required."
