Google extends Android for use in wearable devices
Google has unveiled an extension to the Android operating system which targets wearable devices. Called Android Wear, the extension will do such things, says Google, as provide you with useful information when you need it most.
Writing on the Google website, Sundar Pichai, Google's senior vice president for Android, Chrome and Apps, said: "We're always seeking new ways for technology to help people live their lives and this is just another step in that journey. Here's to getting the most out of the many screens you use every day – whether in your car, in your pocket or – very soon –on your wrist."
According to the company, alongside providing useful information, devices featuring Android Wear will be able to provide intelligent answers to spoken questions, tools to help reach fitness goals and be 'your key to a multiscreen world'.
Motorola is one of the first companies to announce its intention to launch an Android Wear powered device, saying that the Moto 360 watch will be available this summer, starting in the US.
