Government must encourage high efficiency power supplies warns manufacturer
Power supply manufacturer PULS UK claims that cheap, inefficient power supplies are increasing carbon emissions and wasting energy during the conversion process - often greater than 25%.
Harry Moore, PULS' managing director warned that the government and the EU are not encouraging manufacturers to specify high efficiency power supplies when they design new electrical equipment. He said: "We're all being told to use low energy light bulbs and to insulate our lofts, but the public are oblivious to the energy they're wasting whenever they watch TV or use an electrical appliance that's fitted with an inefficient power supply."
Moore believes that because manufacturers are constantly looking to reduce up front costs, it is unlikely that a universal change to high efficiency power supplies will happen for the foreseeable future. He suggests that this could be resolved by the government making it worth their while by offering tax breaks or other incentives.
