'Green' power supplies
1 min read
Power supply manufacturer TDK-Lambda UK has developed a new series of 'green' power supplies that comply with the energy saving requirements of Energy Star and the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive.
Designed for use in light industrial equipment and front end equipment for broadcast and communications applications, the 250W GWS series ac/dc power supply is said to combine high efficiency and high power density with low standby power. It is provided with a five year warranty.
According to TDK-Lambda, the GWS250 is suitable for indoor and outdoor LED information displays and digital signage, traffic controls, test and measurement and entertainment systems.
Designed with a 105x199mm footprint and 1U height, the GWS250 is a convection cooled product fitting into spaces previously requiring a fan cooled model. Rated at 250W the power supply is offered in four models with nominal outputs of 12V (21A), 24V (10.5A), 36V (7A) and 48V (5.3A). Outputs are user adjusted by up to 20% depending on model type – and the 24V and 36V models have a peak power rating of 300W. With a flat efficiency curve averaging at 93%, from 25 to 100% load, the GWS250 range can be operated at full load from -25 to 50°C ambient temperature and up to 70°C with suitable derating.
The series has overvoltage, overtemperature and overcurrent protection (constant current mode for 24, 36 and 48V models, 12V hiccup mode). Models in the GWS250 series also feature <0.5W no load input power, 5V/0.3A standby output, remote on/off, DC GOOD signal and a voltage programming function as standard.
CE marked in accordance with the LV Directive, the GWS250 carries a host of environmental and safety approvals including EN55022 and FCC Class B, UL60950-1, CSA C22.2 No.60950-1-07 (cUL), EN60950-1 edition 2 and IEC60950-1.
