IDT unveils 'industry’s first' NVMe flash controller
1 min read
Integrated Device Technology (IDT) has unveiled what it claims is the industry's first NVM Express (NVMe) enterprise flash memory controller with native support for PCIe Gen 3.
The company says that the NVMe flash controller family provides a standards based SSD solution which will enable OEMs to overcome the latency and throughout bottlenecks inherent to legacy SAS/SATA based SSD designs.
The flash memory controller is available in two versions: a 16channel device with PCIe x4 Gen 3 (89HF16P04AG3) and a 32channel device with PCIe x8 Gen 3 (89HF32P08AG3), both designed to comply with the NVMe standard.
As well as fully supporting the PCIe Gen 3 host interface for maximum throughput, IDT says the flash controllers are fully programmable, which will enable customers to differentiate their solutions with custom firmware.
"As a founding member of the NVMe promoter group and developer of the world's first PCIe enterprise flash controller announced last year, IDT is leading the charge in PCIe based flash controller innovation," Kam Eshghi, senior director of marketing of the enterprise computing division at IDT, told New Electronics. "Early traction and other positive indicators suggest a rapid proliferation of this technology, and IDT is ready to support it."
