Imagination launches dev board against Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone

Imagination Technologies has launched the Creator programme in a move in which it says will provide low cost development systems for use by a range of users looking to create applications featuring its IP technologies.
The first device in the programme is the MIPS Creator C120, which measures 90 x 95mm. The board features an Ingenic JZ4780 apps processor which supports Linux based operating systems, including Android.
According to Imagination, Ingenic JZ4780 is a high performance SoC featuring a dual core MIPS32 based CPU clocked at 1.2GHz and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Alongside 100Mbit/s Ethernet, the board also supports Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b, g and n) and Bluetooth 4.0.
Creator C120, which is being pitched against the Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone Black, can boot operating systems directly from flash or from an SD card. Amongst the OS images available are Debian 7, Gentoo, Yocto and Arch, with Android v4.4 available shortly.
Imagination has only produced a small run of boards for the first batch and is inviting applications from those interested in getting their hands on one.
