‘Industry first’ for open source development
Event driven processor specialist XMOS has revealed what it calls the 'industry's first open source solution for Ethernet AVB networking'.
The XMOS Ethernet AVB reference design has been developed to create an integrated AVB end point solution for consumer and professional networked AV products. Based on XMOS' XS1 family, the reference design supports the Ethernet interface, packet processing, timing synchronisation, stream configuration and media clock recovery. It can be programmed using languages such as XC, C and C++, allowing developers to add or modify custom product features.
James Foster, ceo of XMOS said: "The great agility of the XMOS device architecture and our open source approach to software development fits perfectly with rapidly emerging technology areas like Ethernet AVB. Consumer product designers don't want to be tied to rigid one shot chip solutions. They need simplicity and flexibility to evolve products at short notice. This is what we're providing."
