Intel announces fifth quarter of record revenue

Intel has reported its fifth consecutive quarter of record revenue, with sales up 23% year on year to $13.1billion. The world's largest chipmaker accredited surging demand for mobile devices and data centre equipment.

"We achieved a significant new milestone in the second quarter of this year, surpassing $13bn in revenue for the first time," said Paul Otellini, Intel's president and ceo. "Strong corporate demand for our most advanced technology, the surge of mobile devices and internet traffic fueling data centre growth, and the rapid rise of computing in emerging markets drove record results." Intel said it expected sales in the second half of the year to rise at a similar rate to the first. It is hopeful that demand in emerging markets will fuel sales. "Intel's 23% revenue growth in the first half and our increasing confidence in the second half of 2011 position us to grow annual revenue in the mid 20% range," concluded Otellini.
