Intel announces ultra fast ssd series with 6Gbps SATA interface
In a bid to offer users significantly faster data transfer time, Intel has launched its new 510 series of solid state drives with 6Gbps SATA interface. The range is designed for gamers, media creators and workstation users and according to the company, is capable of read speeds of up to 500Mbps and write speeds of up to 315Mbps.
"The SSD 510 series was specifically designed for applications that require high sequential media transfers," said Pete Hazen, director of marketing for Intel's nand solutions group. "Whether it's a gamer wanting impeccable visual performance and faster game loading, or a performance intensive workstation user, the new range is not only significantly faster than the top 10,000 RPM gaming hard disk drive (hdd), it's also faster than two RAIDed gaming hdds."
Hazen claims the series offers the fastest sequential read and write speeds of any consumer SATA ssd available today and provides industry leading performance that beats a traditional hdd by more than 50%. The ssds utilise Intel's 34nm nand Flash memory and are available in capacities of 120 and 250GB.
