South Korea's Samsung Electronics has announced volume production of its 6Gb/s solid state drives (SSDs). The 'ultra fast' PM830 devices support the Serial ATA Revision 3.0 interface and are available at up to 512GB densities.
"Samsung's new line up of advanced SSDs will raise the performance bar to the next level for ultra slim notebooks and tablets and accelerate growth of the market for high performance SSDs," claimed Wanhoon Hong, executive vp, memory sales and marketing, device solutions, Samsung Electronics.
The new drives, which are expected to replace SATA 3Gb/s based SSDs by the end of the year, are available in 128, 256 and 512GB densities. Samsung claims they shorten system boot up time to about 10 seconds and allow users to download up to five dvd video files in less than a minute.
The 512GB SSD utilises Samsung's most advanced 20nm class 32Gbit multi level cell nand memory chip incorporating the toggle ddr interface. A proprietary nand controller is said to facilitate leading performance levels. The device also features an AES 256bit encryption algorithm to protect personal or corporate data from unauthorized access.
