Microchip expands parallel Flash memory portfolio with ultra compact devices

Microchip Technology has expanded its Multi-Purpose Flash Plus (MPF+) memory range with the introduction of two ultra compact devices.
The SST39VF80XC offers 8Mbit of memory, while the SST39VF160XC offers 16Mbit. The low power 3V x16 parallel NOR Flash devices are manufactured using Microchip's cmos SuperFlash technology and feature active current as low as 5mA (typical) and standby current of 3uA (typical).
According to Microchip, the devices also feature fixed program and erase times that don't deteriorate over time. The SST39VF80XC offers access times of 55 and 70ns, while both devices offer industry compatible command sets. Applications include car infotainment, printers, alarms and meters. For applications that require low power memory in compact packages, the MPF+ devices are also available in an 4 x 6mm 48pin WFBGA package, which Microchip claims is the industry's smallest footprint for packaged devices in these densities.
Randy Drwinga, vice president of Microchip's SuperFlash Memory Division, said: "These new MPF+ products demonstrate our commitment to expanding our NOR Flash portfolio. These devices give our customers the small size, low power consumption and high performance NOR Flash they require for their applications."
