Microchip unveils latest SMSC JukeBlox WiFi connectivity platform

Microchip has unveiled its latest SMSC JukeBlox WiFi connectivity platform, which it says will enable a new category of AirPlay compatible wireless audio streaming systems.
The platform features the JukeBlox 3.1-AAP software development kit (SDK) and CX875 WiFi module, featuring a new DM875 network media processor and 8MB of SDRAM said to reduce BOM costs by up to 20%.
According to Microchip, enhancements to its JB Connect WiFi network setup technology make this JukeBlox technology expansion the easiest and most user friendly solution for designing AirPlay products to date. Improvements to WiFi performance and system boot up times are designed to make WiFi streaming more robust and improve overall user experience.
The CX875 WiFi network media module is based on the triple core SMSC DM875 WiFi network media processor which includes an integrated DSP for enhanced audio capabilities. The JB3.1-AAP SDK offers improved application programming interfaces (APIs), along with tools to simplify product development and customisation.
Microchip also says the new JukeBlox platform provides seamless support for iOS 6 and iPhone 5.
