Microsoft upgrades CE
Microsoft has launched Release 2 of Windows CE 6.0, its embedded operating system.
“We launched CE 6.0 last year,” said Dan Jaznovon, Microsoft’s Windows Embedded product manager. “Since then, the team has been working to include more customer requirements and the result is new technology which will help oems to build smart connected devices.”
CE 6.0 R2 includes more support for web oriented features, as well as for video telephony. Amongst the web service features is the ability for CE 6.0 to work with Vista, whilst R2 also allow oems to specify their own font rendering engine, unlike in the previous release.
But Jaznovon believes web server technology will be the ‘most exciting’ addition, allowing industrial automation modules, for example, to announce and expose the services they can provide.
