New president for Sony
Sony chairman and ceo Sir Howard Stringer is to assume the role of president, sidelining current president Ryoji Chubachi to vice chairman.
Taking effect from April 1, the announcement of the reshuffle saw Sony shares rise 1.3%.
Sir Howard (pictured) said: "This reorganisation is designed to transform Sony into a more innovative, integrated and agile global company with its next generation of leadership firmly in place. The changes we're announcing today will accelerate the transformation of the company that began four years ago."
The company will form two new business groups under the reorganisation. The networked products and services group will include Sony Computer Entertainment and another business group fo consumer products such as tv, digital imaging and home audio.
