Polyphase metering technology brings cost savings, better performance

42 Technology (42T) has unveiled what it describes as a 'novel technology' that provides robust and accurate polyphase metering, but with system costs claimed to be up to 30% lower than currently available solutions.

The solution uses a resistive sensing topology. Although this is the preferred approach for single phase meters, due to its cost, performance and magnetic immunity, 42T's approach is said to offer metering accuracy of better than 1% across the range from 100mA to 100A. This, it adds, is harder to achieve and more expensive with a transformer based approach. "Our polyphase metering technology has been specifically developed to offer the highest performance at the lowest possible cost," said Tolga Aydemir, electronics consultant at 42T, "and will help us to further penetrate the energy and utilities market. Several companies have shown an interest in this approach and we hope to announce our first development partnership within the next few months." The system is said to be completely immune to strong dc magnetic fields and offers an isolation voltage of 15kV, as well as current measurement into the MHz region and lower product assembly and test costs.
