Power transistor market set for record growth
Power transistors are on track to reach record high revenues in 2014, according to IC Insights.
Despite strong gains in 2010 and 2011, sales in the sector fell more than 8% last year to $12.3billion.
However, with market conditions now steadily improving, IC Insights predicts a 7% growth this year to $13.2bn, followed by an 8% rise in 2014 to a record high of $14.3bn.
Between 2012 and 2017, revenues are expected to increase by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 8.5%, compared to a CAGR of 7% for total discrete semiconductors.
IC Insights says higher demand is being fueled by steady increases in battery operated systems, automotive sales, new solar and wind energy generators and smart power grids.
