Power transistor market to reach $13billion in 2011
Following a huge 44% increase in 2010, the power transistor market is expected to climb by a further 9% in 2011 and set a new record high annual sales volume of $13.1billion.
IC Insights estimates that power transistor shipments will rise 11% this year to 58.8bn units. This is primarily due to above average sales growth in automotive electronics, new renewable energy systems, battery operated portable products and more efficient power supplies.
Among power transistor products, sales of modules built with insulated gate bipolar transistors (igbts) are expected to increase 10% to $2.5bn in 2011, while igbt transistor products and power FETs are forecast to grow 9% to $960million and $6.9bn, respectively.
The market analyst firm predicts total power transistor revenues to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.4% between 2010 and 2015, reaching $16.3bn at the end of the forecast period. It suggests FET and igbt products will register the highest compound annual growth rates among all power transistor products.
