Raspberry Pi Foundation launches summer programming contest
A summer programming contest for children and young people has been launched by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with a top prize of $1000.
Open to under 18s in full time education, the challenge is to write a piece of original software for the tiny computer. The competition has two age categories – under 13 and 14 to 18 – and offers five runners up prizes of $200 in each.
The competition will run until 1 September 2012. The foundation says that in the future it plans to run similar contests on a weekly basis, but this one will run for eight weeks to coincide with the school summer holidays in the northern hemisphere.
Young programmers without a Raspberry Pi can still enter by using publicly available emulator platforms.
