Renesas Electronics and SYSGO have announced a collaboration to develop basic software that supports CPU virtualisation technology, suitable for real time control applications.
The design is said to enable high speed real time control and improve the usability of the software development environment, incorporating these functions into microcontrollers (MCUs) with V850 CPU core.
The technology will incorporate SYSGO's PikeOS hybrid OS, which has been designed to enable multiple OSes to run simultaneously on a single CPU, providing virtualisation support. According to SYSGO, they will assess PikeOS in actual automotive and other applications, and the feedback of their evaluation results will be used to optimise the specifications of the software.
In addition to complying with functional safety standards such as DO-178B and EN50128, the software reportedly includes support for the ISO 26262 functional safety standard and provides security functionality, such as support for MILS and EAL.
Michiya Nakamura, general manager of the 1st MCU Business Division, Renesas Electronics, said: "This collaboration with SYSGO enables us to achieve more scalable CPU architecture and to provide virtualisation technology that supports our customers in building more flexible development systems."
