Renesas Electronics Europe has teamed up with technology partners in a bid to support the need for industry standard development tools and middleware solutions.
The semiconductor specialist has announced new compiler support from IAR Sytems for its RL78 microcontroller range, as well as rtos from Micrium and CMX Systems.
Mohammed Dogar, manager of Microcontroller Product Marketing, Industrial Business Unit, Renesas, said: "The RL78 family's outstanding low power characteristics and extensive line up, combined with a well established ecosystem, offer designers world class solutions for 8 and 16bit embedded systems."
IAR's Embedded Workbench provides a C and C++ compiler for the RL78 mcu family and supports the E1 on chip debugger and IECube in circuit emulator tools, both from Renesas. The Embedded Workbench comes bundled with the C-SPY real time debugger and the instruction simulator.
Micrium's µC/OS-II and µC/OS-III kernels have been ported to the RL78 family of processors for battery operated and power sensitive applications. This provides the ability to enter the RL78 range's SNOOZE and HALT modes when idling.
RTOS supplier, CMX Systems has ported its CMX-RTX operating system to Renesas' RL78 mcu. Chuck Behrmann, ceo of CMX, said: "The CMX-RTX is a truly preemptive, multitasking rtos offering one of the smallest footprints, fastest context switching times, and lowest interrupt latency times available."
