RFEL launches video processing system for defence surveillance
1 min read
UK design firm RFEL has introduced Halo, a low power, real time video processing system for image based defence, security and counter-terrorism surveillance.
The video hardware is based around an fpga that includes dual ARM cores. RFEL says it can take in a variety of analogue and digital video formats, process the image and output it in a variety of formats. High quality, high frame rate hd video is also promised, even in challenging visual environments.
At the heart of Halo is a proprietary image fusion engine, which helps to form a composite image based on selecting the best features from both daylight and IR images on a per pixel basis.
Other features include image stabilisation; noise reduction for optimising operation in low ambient light digital zoom; lens distortion correction; image overlay; and support for compression standards.
Halo offers a range of physical interfaces, weighs in at less than 400g and measures 105 x 105 x 80mm. As well as military and government applications, it is expected to find use in commercial security.
