RFMD power platforms support next gen Samsung 3G/4G devices
RF Micro Devices has announced that its PowerSmart power platforms and WiFi components have been selected by Samsung for use in a range of next generation 3G/4G devices.
The Galaxy S 2, pictured, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 will both feature RFMD's PowerSmart, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will also feature RFMD's RF5521 WiFi front end module (FEM). The Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 were recently unveiled by Samsung at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Bob Bruggeworth, president and ceo of RFMD, said, "We believe our PowerSmart power platforms are at the forefront of the technology shift to converged front ends in multimode, multiband smartphones, and we anticipate strong growth in PowerSmart shipments this year."
PowerSmart power platforms feature a new RF Configurable Power Core which is designed to deliver multiband, multimode coverage of all cellular communications modulation schemes, including 2G, 3G and 4G, up to LTE 64QAM.
