Samsung buys CSR’s mobile technology for $310m
Samsung has announced that it will acquire chipmaker CSR's mobile technology business in a deal worth $310million.
Under the agreement, Samsung will gain full access to CSR's mobile connectivity and location technology, transfer relevant patents and employ over 300 CSR employees. It will also pay $34m for a stake in the company.
"By leveraging CSR's R&D capability, Samsung will strengthen its application processor platform and solidify its position as a leading semiconductor solutions provider," said Stephen Woo, president of system LSI business, device solutions at Samsung.
"I believe that under Samsung's system LSI operations the mobile connectivity and location technology will be in a position to prosper in an increasingly competitive global mobile device market," commented CSR ceo Joep van Beurden, pictured.
The transaction is expected to be completed by Q4 this year.
