Silicon Labs acquires SpectraLinear for $40million
Silicon Laboratories has announced a $40million acquisition of timing solutions specialist SpectraLinear. The buyout will bring 19 patents, a portfolio of programmable clock ICs and a team of 44 employees to the Texas based company.
"This acquisition further establishes SiLabs as a one stop timing solution provider," said Mark Downing, pictured, vice president of strategy and business development. "We have established a successful timing portfolio organically in high performance applications, more than doubling our timing revenue since 2008 to more than 10% of our business. We believe our acquisition of cmos based MEMS resonator technology in 2010 followed by today's acquisition of SpectraLinear will enable us to accelerate market share gains in the timing market."
SpectraLinear's range of low power, silicon clocking solutions is optimised for consumer electronics and embedded applications such as portable media players, residential gateways and digital cameras. SiLabs believes the company's clock products will complement its existing timing product line and accelerate penetration of the $500million market in high volume applications.
