‘Smallest LEDs yet’ targeted at wearable electronics applications
Plessey has launched the dotLED range, said to be its smallest packaged MaGIC LED yet, and is targeting the device at applications in wearable electronics.
The first product in the dotLED family is the PLW138003, which delivers up to 0.7lumen of white light from a 5mA drive current and provides a viewing angle of 130°. A blue version, the PLB138003, is also available.
MaGIC LEDs are manufactured using a GaN on silicon process, which supports high volume production
Dr. Jose Lopez, Plessey's chief commercial officer, said: "Plessey is demonstrating its commitment to bringing to market a comprehensive range of LED products across all markets and applications. The dotLED family addresses the exacting optical, mechanical and cost requirements where small is beautiful."
Conforming to the industry standard 1005 component size (1 x 0.5mm), dotLEDs are 0.2mm high. The family will be extended with the addition of colour variants and a series in the 1608 footprint.
