Plessey doubles efficiency of Gan-on-Si leds
A new family of GaN-on-Silicon leds has been introduced by Plessey, which it says offers double the efficiency of its first generation MAGIC series released earlier this year.

The first device to come out of the new family will be the PLW114050; an entry level Gan-on-Si led which delivers 61lm/W.
Available in an industry standard 3020 package with a drive current of 60mA, the PLW114050 offers a CCT range from 6500 to 2700K and has a typical forward voltage of 3.2V.
"We have made great strides forward in refining, productising and improving our patented MAGIC technology," said Dr Keith Strickland, Plessey's chief technology officer. "We have a roadmap that puts MAGIC ahead of the efficacies achieved by sapphire based leds and, thereby, sets a new milestone in terms of Lm/$ performance."
