SoC will create ‘new class’ of smart camera says Ambarella

Imaging chip developer Ambarella has announced an SoC which it claims will bring advanced hd camera and multimedia capabilities to the Android platform.

The iOne is based on a triple ARM cpu architecture developed specifically for low power mobile media applications. A dual core 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cpu provides the horsepower to run Android applications, while a 533MHz ARM11 core is said to handle real time camera tasks and enable camera boot time of less than 1s. According to Ambarella, the technology's architecture requires only a single x32 DRAM for low power operation and low total system cost. The company says the SoC will enable next generation cameras to take a 'significant leap forward' in user experiences and capabilities. "The iOne will fundamentally change the way consumers capture, create and share visual content," said ceo Fermi Wang.
