Premier EDA Solutions is sponsoring eight, 16-17 year old students from Hertfordshire, allowing them to experience engineering courses at universities around the country as part of the Headstart scheme.
"We are looking to build from the ground up," says Premier managing director Phil Mayo. "We must open our doors to youngsters and highlight the tremendous opportunities that a career in engineering can offer."
Headstart enables year 12 students to experience a taste of university life, by trying out science, engineering and technology courses for short periods before making their UCAS applications.
Eight pupils from Freman College, Mayo's local school, are to be sponsored by Premier. They will attend the universities of Cambridge, Bristol, Plymouth, Southampton, UCL and Imperial in London, during June and July.
"The Headstart programme has completely captured my imagination, providing a great opportunity for these students to appreciate many aspects of modern engineering," says Mayo. "We all know that engineers build our future and there is a massive need for new blood. Any company passionate about the success of engineering in the UK can take action like this."
