According to STMicroelectronics, manufacturers are seeking to differentiate their products with features that add value. To help designers meet higher product performance targets, it has launched STM32 Value High Density microcontrollers. These microcontrollers offer extra program memory and on chip functions, extending the family to include devices with from 16 to 512kbyte of embedded flash.
"The latest STM32 Value High Density devices build on the STM32 Value Line to set an even more exciting price competitive entry point to 32bit microcontroller design," said Michel Buffa, general manager of ST's microcontroller division. "Cost sensitive applications can now benefit from flash memory density as high as 512kbytes for program and data storage, as well as extra integrated features."
Among features of the family is an external memory interface, which can address numerous types of external code or data memory. There is also support for a parallel interface mode for lcds with embedded controllers. Extra package options, with up to 112 I/O pins, help designers manage more intensive communications between the microcontroller and other system components, such as sensors, status indicators, wireless subsystems and USB ports.
The devices feature a 24MHz processor, offering 1.25DMIPS/MHz. Also featured is from 24 to 32kbyte of sram, 12 x 16bit timers, a 12bit a/d converter with a 1.2µs conversion time, an lcd parallel interface, and packaging options ranging from 64 to 144pins.
