ST launches IC for ultra compact led lamps
STMicroelectronics has launched a new primary side regulator integrated circuit which it claims offers a current regulation to within 5% accuracy and enables more reliable and efficient led retrofit lamps.
The HVLED805 is the first in a new range of mains operated led lamp drivers and integrates an 800V avalanche rugged mosfet using ST's voltage integration process. According to ST, this is higher than competing devices and offers greater reliability.
The controller integrates high voltage on chip startup circuitry to ensure the device starts reliably when the ac line voltage is applied to the lamp. A quasiresonant operating mode has been implemented to boost energy savings for led lighting and reduce emi filtering.
