Start ups take centre stage at SAME
SAME provided a useful showcase for a number of start ups. Combining near field communications (NFC), sensor and Bluetooth technologies, Apilinx has developed secure devices for remote patient monitoring.
Miniature wearable biosensors connect to the data receiver via NFC and to a mobile phone or home gateway via Bluetooth. Two applications are envisaged: patient monitoring, for a heart condition or a specific disease; and, eventually, wellness monitoring.
Oridao is using active RFID tags with encryption and, eventually, passive RFID-UHF technology to check objects through production and/or the distribution chain, with anticounterfeiting as another application.
Bulgarian company Smartcom is developing filtering solutions for analogue front ends in a range of rf applications. The technology, which uses MEMS based field bulk acoustic resonators, allows for the tuning of resistors and reuses the impedances of the initial stage amplifier. One device can replace two classic filters in the rf front ends typically used for mobile phones and tv tuners.
