TI buys Luminary Micro

Texas Instruments has acquired Luminary Micro, which focuses on ARM 32bit mcus based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core.
According to TI, the addition of Luminary's Stellaris family will accelerate its ability to provide a complete mcu portfolio. "Combining Luminary Micro's design experience in Cortex-M3 processors with TI's expertise in ultra low power MSP430 mcus and high performance C2000 real time controllers now gives TI customers one mcu source for almost any application," said Brian Crutcher, vp of TI's Advanced Embedded Control business.
Jim Reinhart, formerly Luminary's ceo, will lead TI's Catalog ARM MCU business and roadmap.
"Today's announcement is great news for our customers," he said. "Moving forward, our customers [will] enjoy the technology and manufacturing strength of TI, an experienced analogue and embedded processing leader with a global footprint."
The Stellaris mcu family of MCUs is aimed at cost conscious applications with significant control processing and connectivity requirements. Luminary recently announced the fourth generation of Stellaris devices, which it claimed broke new ground in general purpose processing performance.
