Toshiba launches first products based on TransferJet technology
Six years after the formation of the TransferJet consortium, Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has launched its first products based on the technology – TransferJet USB Kits that will go on sale in the last quarter of this year.
TransferJet technology allows close proximity, high speed wireless file transfer and the new USB adaptors (USB and µUSB versions are being released) will open up deployment by tablets, mobile phone and computers.
Data transfers, which can have an effective speed of 375Mbit/s, are initiated simply by touching two devices together. It differs from NFC, which is ideal for instant verification type applications, in that it can allow the rapid transfer of much larger files.
Armin Derpmanns, general manager of solution marketing, TEE, said: "This consumer launch is the first stage of the roll out." He went on to say partnerships with mobile phone companies could see modules introduced early next year, with embedded solutions coming later in 2015.
