TV tuner range supports all standards

A family of silicon tv tuners from Silicon Labs is said to offer the highest performance and integration at the lowest system cost while supporting all worldwide terrestrial and cable tv standards.
The Si21x7 tuner family includes five products optimised for hybrid analogue/digital, analogue and portable tvs, as well as DVD and Blu-ray recorders and terrestrial and cable set top boxes.
The Si21x7 tuners are said not to require an external balun on the rf input, reducing system cost and complexity without affecting performance. In addition, the tuners integrate tracking filter inductors and eliminate the need for inductive power supply filtering. A power on reset monitor and optional 3.3V power supply operation further reduce system cost.
Drawing less than 500mW, devices in the Si21x7 family support NTSC, PAL and SECAM for analogue tv and DVB-T2/C2/T/C, ISDB-T/C, ATSC/QAM and DTMB for digital tv. All members have compatible pinouts and share a single software API.
Silicon Labs launched its first tv tuner in 2009 and had shipped 100million unit by 2012. According to the company, it has shipped a further 100m units in the last year. James Stansberry, general manager of broadcast products, said: "We are now supplying silicon tv tuners in high volumes to nine of the world's top 10 tv makers."
