The Manchester division of Ultra Electronics has been awarded a £207million contract to provide IT systems for new airport terminals in Oman.
Subject to a final contract agreement, the Wythenshawe based aerospace and defence company will act as the master systems integrator for terminals at Muscat and Salalah airports.
The contract covers the supply of all electronic infrastructure, including the installation of Ultra's airport IT systems, networks, communications and security systems at both airports. Commissioned by the Omani Ministry of Transport & Communications, the overall programme is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, pictured, said: "I am extremely pleased that Ultra has been selected for this prestigious airport systems contract in Oman. We have assembled a world class team of companies that complement the IT systems and software that Ultra has developed over recent years."
The division has 239 staff, including 100 in Manchester, and it's hoped that the new deal will create 15 new jobs in the city to replace existing staff who will relocate to Oman.
