USB2 controller hubs are first to offer programmability

Seven new programmable UCH2 ics have been introduced by Microchip.

Said to be the first of their kind, the devices let developers of pcs and mobile devices configure their designs without external memory. Additionally, the ics support both USB2 and USB HSIC connectivity, maximum battery life via low power modes such as Link Power Management, and the ability to replace wall chargers with advanced battery charging modes. For applications that need to communicate over multiple protocols, the UCH2s feature direct I/O bridging to I2C, SPI, UART and general purpose I/O. They also have the flexibility to support the behaviours of multiple operating systems, such as vendor specific messaging and FlexConnect for simple port reversals.
