Will the driverless car ever become a reality?
Google has already run tests on a driverless car in California, so far without mishap, but it will be some time before autonomous cars appear in showrooms near you.
Indeed, there are a number of challenges to be overcome before autonomous vehicles can become a reality – these challenges are wide ranging from legal (who is to blame in a crash?, through technical (security, cost etc.), to probably the most difficult one to solve, the psychological challenge (will we ever trust a driverless car?).
During a keynote at the Electronics Design Show in Coventry next week, Freescale will look at these challenges in turn, but will show that the journey towards self-driving cars is an exciting and positive one, leading to safer roads for the driven cars as well as the driverless ones.
The conference session will be delivered by Andy Birnie, Systems Engineering Manager, Automotive Microcontrollers, Freescale.
