Intersil has introduced three realtime clock products it describes as 'the world's smallest and thinnest'.
Designed for low voltage and portable applications, the analogue and mixed signal semiconductor specialist's ISL12057/8/9 range is said to simplify the design Of utility E-Meters, multifunction printers, digital photo frames and other devices.
The smallest of these products, the ISL12057 and ISL12058, require 2 x 2mm in board space and are 0.55mm thick. The ISL12057 is available in a 2 x 2mm 8-lead uTDFN plastic package, which Intersil says offers enhanced ruggedness and durability in portable applications.
The devices are also available in a 3 x 3mm 8-lead TDFN, and MSOP and SOIC package choices. In addition, the ISL12058 offers package choices in the 2 x 2mm uTDFN, 3 x 3mm TDFN, 8-lead MSOP and 8-lead SOIC options.
According to Intersil, the real time clock and calendar uses an external 32.768kHz crystal that tracks time by date, year, months, week, and hour, minute or seconds. Multiple selectable alarms allow a flexibility of alarm choices, with outputs for beepers or lights.
