Xilinx completes Virtex-5 rollout
1 min read
Xilinx has completed the introduction of the four domain optimised members of its Virtex-5 fpga family with the launch of the FXT range – the most powerful of the four variants.
Describing the parts as the ‘ultimate system integration platform’, Xilinx says FXT devices deliver high performance whilst enabling designers to reduce system costs, board space and component count.
Up to two PowerPC 440 processor blocks are available, with each processor delivering up to 1100DMIPS at 550MHz. Each processor has 32kbyte instruction data caches.
The FXT also provides higher data throughput by moving away from a sequential bus in favour of an integrated 5 x 2 cross bar processor interconnect architecture. This provides simultaneous access to I/O and memory.
Five FXT variants will be launched, with samples of the FX30T and FX70T now shipping. The remaining three – the FX100T, FX130T and FX200T – will become available within the next six months.
However, the company claims that ‘more than 1000’ samples have been shipped already to ‘more than 100’ customers.
