DC/DC controller provides complete solution for embedded cpu/gpu cores
Intersil has expanded its portfolio of multi phase dc/dc controllers with the introduction of the ISL95831. The power management specialist's latest controller is designed to provide a complete solution for cpu and gpu core power while delivering 'best in class' transient response and energy savings.
The ISL95831 complies with Intel's IMVP-7/VR12 specification for smart voltage regulation to reduce power dissipation in the second generation lntel Core-i5/i7 processors. It is based on the company's Robust Ripple Regulator technology, a hybrid of fixed frequency pwm control and variable frequency hysteretic control. Intersil claims it delivers the industry's fastest transient response.
The unit is optimised to allow the cpu to enter into and out of sleep mode frequently without accumulating performance latency. By avoiding this latency, the company says the ISL95831 ensures the cpu is able to achieve maximum performance.
