Dual axis accelerometer delivers guaranteed high temperature up to 175°C

Analog Devices has released a new dual axis iMEMS accelerometer with signal conditioned analogue voltage outputs.
The single chip ADXL206 measures acceleration with a full scale range of ±5g and measures both dynamic acceleration, such as tilt - and static acceleration, such as gravity. The device comes with a guaranteed operating temperature range of -40 to 175°C and 'excellent' overall stability. It is targeted at geological down hole tools and other extreme high temperature industrial applications.
"As designers put together smart drilling systems that go miles and miles under the earth's surface, they are challenged to balance power and space requirements against the need for more information," said Pam Aparo, segment marketing manager for Instrumentation, Analog Devices. "The ADXL206 iMEMS accelerometer is not only an extremely compact solution, but it also lowers power consumption by an order of magnitude from more than 10mA to under 0.5mA per axis."
The ADXL206 has a typical noise floor of 110µg/vHz, allowing signals below 1mg (0.06° of inclination) to be resolved in tilt sensing applications using narrow bandwidths. Bandwidths of 0.5 to 2.5 kHz can be selected to suit the application. The device is available in a 13 × 8 × 2 mm, 8 lead, SBDIP package.
