Front end power supplies achieve 90% efficiency
TDK has introduced a new series of front end power supplies. The RFE1600 family is made up of 1.6kW 1U front end devices aimed at stand alone and distributed power architecture applications requiring 12, 24, 32 and 48V bulk power in the communications, test and industrial markets.
Operating from a universal input of 85 to 265VAC, the power supplies are designed to maintain over 90% efficiency, thus minimising heat dissipation. The RFE1600-12, 24, 32 and 48 models can be used individually or up to 10 units can be connected in parallel to form an N+1 redundant power system with internal ORing mosfets and single wire current share.
Each power supply has two temperature controlled internal cooling fans for longer life and can operate between 10 and 70°C. TDK claims the devices achieves a power density of 24W/in3.
