Full graphic display module targets industrial applications
1 min read
Electronic Assembly has launched a new display module for use in industrial controllers. The DIP180B-5NLWTP is equipped with an analogue resistive touch panel, allowing applications involving user guidance and the display of information to be combined in a single unit.
The graphic display has a resolution of 180 x 32 pixels, with all alphanumeric characters displayed as graphics. Three integrated type SED1520 controllers have been implemented to control the left, centre and right sections of the display. A white led background ensures a clear picture and strong readability under all lighting conditions.
The touch panel is linked to an external touch pad controller, or a controller with analogue inputs. When a specific voltage is applied to the 'top to bottom' input of the controller, a voltage proportionate to the Y position of the point of contact is read by the microcontroller's 'left to right' input. The same process is applied when determining the point of contact for the X axis. The output voltage that is then read by the top to bottom microcontroller's input and indicates the horizontal position of the point of contact.
EA claims the module provides a high level of contrast and fast response times, due to the use of an lcd supertwist display. The modules feature an automatic temperature compensation facility, which is designed to eliminate the need to adjust the contrast during operation. The display is specified for operation between -20 and 70°C and can be soldered directly to the printed circuit board.
